The Show That Cares for Carers
Every Monday evening from 8pm to 9pm, CareSound Radio is proud to bring you The Monday Reset with Nicky Foley, a show dedicated to supporting the people who spend so much of their time caring for others.
As a carer herself, Nicky understands the challenges, rewards and realities of caring. That’s why she created The Monday Reset where carers can listen, relax, enjoy great music and hear practical information that could make a difference to their lives.
A lifelong love of radio
Nicky’s broadcasting journey began while studying Film and Media at the University of Stirling and then creating podcasts for a radio station in Edinburgh. After getting in touch with CareSound Radio, she was invited to join the team and knew she wanted to create a programme dedicated to supporting carers. “I wanted to do a show for carers because I am one,” says Nicky. “Carers are often underrepresented, and it can be quite a lonely job.”

Although she admits presenting live radio can still be nerve-wracking, she loves the unique connection radio creates.
“As an autistic person, I actually like that no one can see me. I enjoy talking about things, and radio lets you communicate with people in such a personal way.”
Her love of radio started early, growing up listening to legendary presenters including Terry Wogan, Steve Wright and Gary Davies. “I grew up with those voices. I’ve always loved radio and wanted to be part of it.”
Music, support and a chance to reset
The Monday Reset is built around a fantastic soundtrack of music from the 70s, 80s and 90s, creating a show that everyone can enjoy.
“Everybody cares for somebody,” says Nicky. “Some people suddenly and unexpectedly become carers, so I want the show to be for everyone.”
Whether you’re a young person caring for a parent, an older person looking after your partner, or somewhere in between, the programme aims to help listeners feel seen, understood and less alone.
“Carers are often exhausted, and music does amazing things for your brain. Sometimes it’s exactly what’s needed after a long day.”
Practical support without the clichés
One thing listeners won’t find on The Monday Reset is what Nicky describes as toxic positivity. “I don’t want to tell people to just light a candle and everything will be fine,” she says. “Caring is hard.”
The show focuses on realistic, practical advice and information. As a volunteer with Carers UK, Nicky shares useful resources from them and support available to carers, along with ideas for activities people can enjoy with the person they care for.
She also highlights opportunities from organisations including PKAVS, whose support has been invaluable to her as a parent carer.
Above all, Nicky wants every listener to know one thing: “You are not alone.”
She understands that caring can become all-encompassing, especially for people balancing multiple responsibilities, including so-called sandwich carers who are caring for both children and older relatives.
Her message is simple but powerful: “You can’t pour from an empty cup.”
Looking after yourself isn’t selfish it is essential.

A show shaped by carers
Nicky is keen for The Monday Reset to reflect the experiences of the people listening. She has already reached out to carers’ groups and welcomes ideas for topics, requests and issues that carers would like to hear covered on air.
For Nicky, if The Monday Reset helps even one person feel happier, better informed or less alone, then the show has achieved exactly what it set out to do.
If there’s one piece of advice Nicky would give to anyone caring for someone else, it’s this: “Reach out and ask for help. Services are stretched, but there will be someone out there who can support you. Even if it’s just telling a friend how you’re feeling, don’t try to carry everything on your own.”
